Over 2000 children, parents, teachers and psycho-social staff were involved in the month-long awareness campaign for a safer internet for children and young people. Meanwhile, the Awareness Campaign continues from school to school across Albania, already in the framework of the Action Plan, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and our partners.
Tirana, 12 March 2025 – With the organization of over 30 awareness-raising activities and the involvement of over 2,000 children and parents, the Safer Internet Day and Month 2025 campaign has been successfully concluded. The National Safer Internet Centre in Albania – iSIGURT.al, in cooperation with CRCA Albania and ALO 116-111, has conducted numerous activities in schools, community centers and health centers, focusing on raising awareness on the challenges and risks in the digital space.
In the framework of this campaign, the 10th National Forum: “Together against Bullying and Hate Speech in Cyberspace” was held, which was attended by important institutions such as the National Cyber Security Authority (NSSA), the State Authority for Children’s Rights and Protection (ASHDMF), the State Police and the State Social Service (SHSSH). During the Forum, the iSIGURT.al National Report for 2024 was presented, which showed a 60% increase in reporting compared to the previous year, where the main concerns were hate speech, bullying and online threats.
One of the most important initiatives of the campaign was the holding of information sessions in 1,100 schools, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Sports, where teachers held classes dedicated to cybersecurity. Also, the cooperation with the Parents’ Council in Tirana schools helped to raise awareness about online dangers and the protective measures that should be taken. In addition, the iSIGURT.al Platform and ALO 116-111 initiated the development of professional protocols for social workers, psychologists, and teachers, with the aim of more effectively addressing cases of online risk.
ALO 116-111 provided 24/7 support to children and young people, handling 954 calls, of which 15 cases were related to online safety. In cooperation with the State Police, 5 harmful sites were identified and closed, while individuals were discovered who blackmailed young girls with illegal content, helping to protect minors from online dangers.
The Safer Internet Day campaign had a wide reach in the media and social networks, including the publication of 1200 articles in the print media, 6 radio broadcasts and 12 television appearances. Also, the number of followers on social networks increased significantly, with 2059 new followers on Facebook and 1976 on Instagram, while there was also high engagement on platforms such as LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube and X (Twitter).
This awareness month has once again shown the importance of inter-institutional cooperation to ensure a safer online environment for children and young people in Albania. iSIGURT.al, CRCA Albania, ALO 116-111 and other partners commit to continue working on strengthening safeguards and raising public awareness on online safety.
