Tirana, 7 July 2020 - Team Albanians, an organization composed of the Albanian diaspora, the Albanian student associations of Harvard University, Michigan and Columbia University have launched a campaign for a month to raise funds to help the family and 15-year-old girl who was raped in Tirana.
More than a month ago, Albania was shocked by a serious incident in which a 65-year-old man and two young men threatened to sexually rape a 15-year-old girl. The close cooperation of the CRCA, ALO 116 and the State Police made it possible not only to identify the abusers but also to handcuff them.
Based on the global address of fundraising www.gofundme.com, students, Albanian and foreign citizens, including well-known personalities, have supported the fundraising which aims to provide free services to the girl.
Team Albanians and CRCA/ECPAT Albania on 4th June launched the campaign "Funds for Sexual Violence Survivors" aiming to raise more than 7,000 USD. The campaign has so far been supported by 128 individual donors, who have managed to raise so far 6000 USD. Among the names of the individual donors, there are many foreign citizens, but also well-known persons such as the former EU Ambassador, Romana Vlahutin or the former Albanian Minister Andis Harasani, etc.
The funds will go directly to the girl's family and will be used for education, parental employment, and counselling sessions that the 15-year-old needs.
