CRCA / ECPAT Albania: Urgently approve the draft law on the "National Register of Convicts for Sexual Crimes"!

Tirana, 22 May 2021 – CRCA / ECPAT Albania, in full concern of the situation in which the reality of sexual violence against children in the country continues, demands with urgency the full commitment of Albanian lawmakers . Through this public statement, CRCA requests the approval as soon as possible of the Draft Law on the “National Sex Offenders Register “.
About 2 months ago, MP Fatjona Dhimitri addressed the official request to the Albanian Parliament for the consideration and approval of this draft law prepared by CRCA / ECPAT Albania.
Meanwhile, the Albanian Parliament, for 3 weeks has already included in its calendar, precisely the discussion of the draft law on sexual predators.
Albania seems to be marking daily, child and adolescent victims of sexual violence. The latest case recorded in Rrëshen, in which it is alleged that 5 people threatened and then sexually abused the minor girl, is a cause for concern.
The Director of CRCA / ECPAT Albania, stated that “If the deputies and all of us are one day late in the adoption of this law, which is so necessary for the protection of victims, then sexual predators will continue to commit crimes and abuse victims! The Assembly should not waste any more time in approving this bill”.

On the other hand, CRCA / ECPAT Albania, invites all MPs, and even directs the request to all those who immediately approve the law, to protect the life of every child from sexual violence and pedophilia.
The draft law has been prepared by the best experts in the field of protection of children’s rights of CRCA / ECPAT Albania, Barnahus Albania, as well as lawyers of the Office of Free Legal Protection for Children and Youth in Albania. It aims to prevent crimes and sexual violence against children in Albania, by monitoring and controlling the movements of convicted or self-registered persons as pedophiles. It is based on the legislative experience and best practices of several countries, such as France, the United Kingdom, Canada, Ireland, the United States and North Macedonia.
