THE RIGHT TO PEACEFUL ASSEMBLY AND FREEDOM OF ASSOCIATION
The right to assemble peacefully, together with freedom of expression and freedom of association, rests at the core of any functioning democratic system.
Freedom of peaceful assembly is a fundamental human right that can be enjoyed and exercised by individuals and groups, unregistered associations, legal entities, and corporate bodies. Assemblies may serve many purposes, including the expression of diverse, unpopular or minority opinions. The protection of the freedom to peacefully assemble is crucial to creating a tolerant and pluralistic society in which groups with different beliefs, practices or policies can exist peacefully together.
What is the right of assembly?
Albanian legislation defines the word "assembly" as the organization of gatherings, demonstrations, rallies, and parades of a peaceful and unarmed nature, in which a group of persons express their demands and views on problems of which they are interested.
