Tirana, 7 February 2020 – CRCA/ECPAT Albania launched this morning a week of awareness-raising activities on safer internet for children and young people, in line with the International Safe Internet Day, which this year is being organized on 11 February 2020.
In addition to the activities that will take place in many schools and municipalities across the country, the National Centre for Safer Internet in Albania and the Albanian National Platform Isigurt.al, in collaboration with CRCA/ECPAT Albania, the Centre for Openness and Dialogue (COD) and the National Resource Centre for Youth in Albania (YRCA) will jointly organise the 5th National Forum “Together for Safe Internet for Children and Youth in Albania”.
The Forum will discuss the necessity of drafting new strategies and action plans focusing on child protection by providing a safer and better Internet. Another topic of discussion is the role of public authorities, civil society organizations and the internet industry, on how to establish a child & youth-safe ecosystem in interest, where everyone is respected and not abused or exploited.
During the week, the 2ndNational Report on Internet Safety will be presented, which this year holds the title: "Hate against Children and Youth on the Internet". The report comes in the context of SID and brings facts and statistics to the whole situation of internet incidents in Albania, reported to the National Platform for Safer Internet (www.isigurt.al). The Report also provides key recommendations for building a comprehensive and functional system for protecting children and young people while on Internet.
The International Safe Internet Day takes place under the motto "Together for Safe Internet" and seeks to encourage citizens to create a better and safer internet for all children. It is also a call to government, civil society, the internet industry, parents, teachers, etc., to take concrete measures to protect and raise awareness of children and adolescents against the dangers of unsafe internet navigation.
During the last two years, within this campaign, CRCA / ECPAT Albania has achieved two very important agreements, with Facebook and Google, which expand the spaces and opportunities for online protection of children and adolescents, especially on Instagram and YouTube.
Safe Internet Day started as an initiative of the European Union Safe Borders project in 2004 and being taken over by the Insafe network as one of its earliest actions in 2005, Safe Internet Day has grown beyond its traditional area geographical and is now celebrated in more than 140 countries around the world. Albania has been a part of this day since 2005, through CRCA Albania, which is the national coordinator of safer internet day.
