Freedom through photography

JUVENILES IN CONFLICT WITH THE LAW  HAVE OPENED THEIR EXHIBITION

Tirana, 10 December 2012 - The Children’s Human Rights Center in Albania - CRCA / DCI Albania in cooperation with the General Directorate of Prisons and Institute for Execution of Penal Decisions(IEPD Jordan Misja Tirane, Sh-Koll, Korçë, Kavajë and Vlore) organized the exhibition "Freedom through photography."

The organization of this exhibition was financially supported by the Small Grants Program of the U.S. Embassy Democracy Commission in Tirana.

The purpose of this event was the exhibition of about 30 photographs realized by juveniles in conflict with the law who through their camera and have fixed moments and objects to symbolize freedom beyond bars. For the first time this association gave the children an opportunity to challenge the closed world by displaying the value of freedom.

The event was attended by representatives of various institutions and non-governmental organizations working in the field of the administration of juvenile justice in Albania, as well as senior representatives of the General Directorate of Prisons, Ministry of Justice, Ombudsman, etc.

The exhibition was held for about two hours in the premises of the National Theatre in Tirana. Most remarkable photographs were evaluated by 3-symbolic prices. For these three awards were given a camera, play station and headphones. Specifically split prices in the Institutions of Kavajë, Vlora and Tirana.

This initiative aims to expose these works in other environments in the form of a traveling exhibition for the general public.
