Tirana, 10 September 2020 - CRCA was selected and authorised today as one of the twelve CSOs in Albania to provide primary free legal aid to all vulnerable children and youth, including their families, who require such assistance that is supported by the national budget. The Ministry of Justice, among 15 applications received from civil society organizations, decided to authorize CRCA/ECPAT Albania, as one of the most experienced and nationwide organizations to provide free primary legal aid to children and youth in Albania.
At the official ceremony, held at the Ministry of Justice, the Director of CRCA, Altin Hazizaj, underlined the importance of this process for human rights in Albania, demanding further attention from the Albanian institutions for the victims of sexual violence and exploitation.
"We congratulate the Ministry of Justice for the successful and transparent process - said Hazizaj on behalf of CRCA / ECPAT Albania - Now all the burden of proving the success of primary aid has passed to civil society in Albania. We take this chance to wish success to all partner organizations in fulfilling this extremely difficult mission.”
CRCA / ECPAT Albania has been providing free legal aid for the last 20 years for vulnerable children and young people victims of violence and those in conflict with the law. The authorisation from the Ministry means that the primary free legal services will also enjoy the support of the state budget, through the newly established Directorate of Free Legal Aid. This creates opportunities for increasing the number of beneficiaries of free primary legal aid, which is also a condition for Albania's European integration to increase access to justice for the most vulnerable groups in society.
Primary legal aid services include providing professional information on the legal system and normative acts of Albania, advising on legal or mediation procedures, assistance in drafting legal documents to seek secondary legal aid, representation before administrative bodies, etc.
CRCA / ECPAT Albania for 23 years has established some of the most important and necessary services for child protection and young people in Albania. Since 2011 it has been licensed to provide such specialised services at community and national level.
