Korça, 10 July 2014-The Children’s Human Rights of Albania, ALO 116 and UNICEF support 100 children from the Roma, Egyptian, from children’s homes and other vulnerable strata of the society to attend the “Miqësia” summer camp at the Rinia Park in the city of Korça.
100 children age 6 to 12 have been supported with t-shirts, hats, bags, stationary and learning materials in the framework of the initiative “Every Roma child in the Kindergarten”. The “Miqësia” camp has been organised by the Municipality of Korça in collaboration with other partners and will remain open during the whole month of July. During this period, children will have the opportunity to have fun, take part in social games, sports, excursions in museums, etc.
Mr. Sotiraq Filo, Mayor of Korça said, “This summer camp has been transformed into a tradition of the Municipality of Korça which gives the opportunity to 6-12 year old children to have a great time with their companions during these hot summer days. I wish all the children a good camp and a lot of fun.
Mr. ElvisGjata, Coordinator of the Qark of Korça for CRCA Albania expressed his gratitude for the collaboration the municipality of Korça has shown during all these months in the framework of inclusive policies for children form vulnerable and disadvantaged groups.
The UNICEF and CRCA Albania initiative “Every Roma child in the kindergarten” supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and the Austrian Cooperation for Development, aims to establish and support local networks in early childhood issues and the integration of Roma children in preschool. At this meeting, representatives of public institutions and civil society expressed their commitment to continue working in support of the Roma community and especially for the integration of 3-6 year old children in the kindergarten, and find a solution to the series of problems that need to be addressed in the future.
ALO 116 has been an important ally in terms of the counselling services that it offers to parents regarding the registration of their children in kindergartens. It is a unique service with the main goal to protect children in situations of risk and refer them to the existing local and central institutions or services.
