Tirana, 29 March 2019 – The Child Rights Centre in Albania (CRCA), from today will also be recognisedas ECPAT Albania, because of our full membership at the global network of ECPAT International. The network expands across 96 countries and in Albania is represented by CRCA.
ECPAT International is a global network of 109 organizations working to end child abuse and sexual exploitation worldwide. Children in all countries of the world are at risk of trafficking and prostitution, as well as online dangers such as grooming, sextortion and the proliferation of child sexual abuse images. In the recent years, the travel and tourism sector has imperilled millions of children worldwide where child sex predators find new victims.  ECPAT works to end up to this sexual exploitation and advocates with governments and the international community for changes, work to better understand the problem through research and prioritize the needs of child victims and survivors.
CRCA and ECPAT International began their cooperation in 2001, while in 2015 CRCA was accepted as an organization with full rights including the use the official name and logo of ECPAT in Albania.
CRCA / ECPAT Albania will continue to work to ensure the implementation of cross-sectoral cooperation principles and strengthen the system’s ability to prevent, react and protect children, young people and women from all forms of violence and exploitation. CRCA / ECPAT Albania will advocate improving the work of central and local government in protecting children, young people and women from sexual violence.
In addition, CRCA / ECPAT Albania will continue our work to create a safer Internet use environment for both children and young people in Albania and Western Balkans. For many years, CRCA Albania has asked the Albanian Parliament and the Laws Commission that in its expected changes to the Criminal Code to approve our proposals to protect children from violence and exploitation on the Internet. The amendments are still pending approval, yet they are urgent in order to prevent abusers and sexual predators from abusing children and youth using social networks.
