Tirana, 23 September 2024 – The Executive Director of CRCA/ECPAT Albania, Mr. Altin Hazizaj, was welcomed at a meeting this morning, with vice Prime Minister of Albania, Mrs. Belinda Balluku. The meeting was organized following CRCA Albania’s effort to stimulate discussions and engagement of public institutions, policy makers, civil society and the Internet industry, to establish a new architecture for the safety and protection of children in digital space.
“On behalf of CRCA Albania I would like to express our gratitude for the unwavering support you have provided on the issue of the rights of the child, especially on gender-based violence. In this context, we strongly believe that the office of the Prime Minister is the right institution to take the leadership, in cooperation and interaction with all social partners, to establish a new architecture for protection of children online. The data from iSIGURT.al shows that the Internet has become the main tool of harming children in the digital space” – stated at the opening of the meeting Mr. Altin Hazizaj, Director of CRCA / ECPAT Albania.
The Deputy Prime Minister of Albania, Mrs. Balluku expressed her gratitude for CRCA Albania’s work and contribution, highlighting the fact that violence and bullying against children in cyberspace have become a serious concern that requires everyone’s attention and contribution. She welcomed the signing of the National Pact Against Violence against Children signed by the four main ministries of the Albanian Government, CRCA Albania and ALO 116-111.
CRCA/ECPAT Albania presented to vice Prime Minister a broad platform of joint measures and actions that can be taken in the short and long term. The parties agreed to work together on the implementation of the platform.
Albania has made steps towards child protection in the digital space, but the country is failing in terms of improving policies and legislation. CRCA is working with authorities to improve legislation and policies to make way for new measures for the protection of children and youth online.
