One slogan, one message in support of children’s rights. Civil Society march organized in front of the government and Parliament of Albania.
Tirana, 20 November 2014 – On the occasion of the International Children’s Day, civil society organizations embraced the call of CRCA Albania and ALO 116 to march in front of the Prime Minister’s Office and Parliament to demand greater attention from the executive and legislative branch on child right’s issues. Under the noise of whistles and holding slogans civil society activists marched along Mother Tereza Boulevard to stop before the Parliament and Prime Minister’s Office.
November the 20th, International Children’s day, this year marks the 25th anniversary of the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of Child. This day is meant to be a reflection on the progress and problems regarding the situation of children’s rights in the country. The main emphasis of the day was the changes that the state can bring to promote policies in favor and in respect children’s rights.
This march was joined by dozens of organizations and civil society activists with slogans like “More kindergartens for children”, “More parks and green spaces”, “Budget for children”, “End Violence against Children”, “An Educational System to Educate Children “etc. urging the central government and  parliament but also local government for a greater focus on children regarding protective and supportive policies in their favour.
Altin Hazizaj, director of CRCA Albania in his statement to the media said: “Problems such as child exploitation or violence against children abuse are seen and heard every day. The government has made achievements, but the fact that we find ourselves here today means that there is still a lot to be done”.
Founded by the United Nations in 1954, International Children’s Day aims to promote the welfare of children everywhere, and to encourage understanding among children all over the world. Moreover,  on November 20th the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child in 1959 and the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989.
