Tirana, 7 February 2023 – This morning, on the International Day for Safer Internet (SID), the National Centre for Safer Internet in Albania – iSIGURT.al launched the national campaign on safer internet for children. The campaign takes place under the motto: Together we can make the Internet safer for children. It aims to encourage greater awareness among children, parents, institutions, and society, so that no child becomes a victim of online sexual violence or have access to inappropriate materials online.

iSIGURT.al – The National Platform for Safer Internet in Albania, which also functions as the National Hotline for Child Internet Safety, is a service established by CRCA/ECPAT Albania in 2015. It has as its main mission report and remove online illegal content on the Internet, social networks and online media that contains CSAM, bullying and extreme violence against children and young people, as well as hate speech or hate crimes.

In Albania, the Internet Safety Day took place for the first time in year 2005. This year there will be a series of important public activities organized by iSIGURT.al, such as:

On 7 February, the opening of the Safer Internet Day, with the engagement of the mainstream media, CSOs, schools, teachers, children, and parents, to encourage a broad social discussion on internet safety while inform parents and children on how to keep children safe online.

On 9 February, the opening of the National Campaign “This isn’t your intimate photo! Don’t share it – Report it!”. Children are self-generating materials with intimate content, which they exchange with other children. Such intimate and personal materials can easily be shared with other people! We want children to know what can happen with such self-generated materials and where to seek help if such materials get shared or become viral.

On 10 February, the public release of the National Report on the Safer Internet in Albania, an annual publication of iSIGURT that analyses online incidents reported by children. The report provides recommendations for the authorities, CSOs and the Internet industry.

Safer Internet Day aims to create a safer and better online world, where we are all empowered to use technology responsibly, respectfully, critically, and creatively. It aims to reach out to children and young people, parents, teachers, child protection agencies, the industry, decision-makers, and politicians., to encourage everyone to play their part in creating a safer and positive online environment for everyone. Celebrating the positive power of the internet, the Safer Internet Day slogan “Together for a Better Internet” encourages everyone to join the movement, participate and make the most of the internet’s potential to bring people together.
