Tirana, 2 February 2024 – As preparations for the International Safer Internet Day (SID) continue, the National Hotline for Child Internet Safety, iSIGURT.al, has igniting its engines with the organisation of the National Campaign for Safer Internet in Albania since two weeks, through an online campaign that is being conducted on all social networks.

Called “50 People for Safer Internet in Albania” iSIGURT together with CRCA/ECPAT Albania every day until the end of February, will publish messages of 50 public personas, from various walks of life, political or social, on the issue of internet safety. The focus of the campaign are children and young people, but given the reality of events in Albania, the organisers expanded the scope of the messages of the campaign to include vulnerable women and other communities.

The campaign opened with the messages of the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Albana Koçiu, the Minister if Interior, Taulant Balla, and the Minister of State for Children and Youth, Bora Muzhaqi. It was followed by the messages of TV celebrities such as Luana Vjollca, Ermal Peçi, Eni Çobani, of music such as Rovena Dilo, and other well-known personalities from politics, media and social fields, such as: Arta Dade, Nora Malaj, Zhaklin Lektari etc. In the coming days and weeks, the campaign will see Ministers, politicians, media personalities, and civil society representatives sharing their messages on internet safety.

Within this context, children and young people will also join the National Campaign, together with representatives of vulnerable communities threatened by online hate speech, such as Roma, people with disabilities, LGBTI community etc.

This is the first ever national campaign of iSIGURT that engages a large number of public personas to campaign for internet safety. The Safer Internet Day, which this year is held on 6 February, engages millions of people around the world who want the Internet to become a safer space for everyone.

In Albania, the main event in the framework of the International Safer Internet Day will take place on 7 February, where two major reports one on child online safety and one on hate speech against women and girls in Albania will be presented.
