16.04.2018- From today, 18 families of the Roma community in the Administrative Unit no. 6 / Kombinat, will be supplied daily with drinking water, after 1 year and a half of absence! The solution to this problem has become due the reporting and raising as a concern by the Free Legal Aid Office for Vulnerable Children and Youth in Albania at the General Directorate of Water Supply and Sewerage Tirana.
The Free Legal Aid Office for Vulnerable Children and Youth in Albania and CRCA Albania for more than a month have followed step by step the solving of the drinking water problem for the 18 families, addressing them institutionally to the General Directorate of Water Supply and Sewerage Tirana (UKT). It is worth pointing out that UKT, immediately after having been aware of the problem, took the necessary measures and finally, 18 families, 52 children of the Roma community will have drinking water after a year and a half of absence!
The absence of the drinking water, few days ago as was reported and followed by the Free Legal Aid Office for Vulnerable Children and Youth in Albania, caused significant problems with the hygiene and spread of the epidemic in these families! Some of the children were affected by measles and various contagious infections; 52 Roma children were affected by parasites and therefore abandoned kindergartens and schools.
The following days CRCA Albania will closely follow the process of establishing service contracts for drinking water supply of 18 families, coordinating work with the Tirana Municipality and Unit no. 6 of Tirana Water Supply and Sewerage. CRCA Albania, referring to the recent guidelines of the Tirana Municipality, is working together with the Municipality to conclude contracts for 18 Roma families that are treated with economic assistance can be linked free of charge!
The Free Legal Aid Office for Vulnerable Children and Youth in Albania and CRCA Albania thanked Mr. Redi Molla – Director General of Water Supply and Sewerage Tirana and all engineers and employees of this institution for the readiness and cooperation shown for the immediate resolution of this problem.
